A busy week and we still aren’t in the home.
Stairs and Flooring
It started off well, we finished the stairs on Tuesday, Here is Hannah putting in the last picket:
I also completed the plumbing for the home both fire sprinkler and water main. I hope I did it right.
The flooring guy took a while to finish everything because there were baseboards and trim that needed to be done. We ended up going with the Java Hickory flooring from Home Depot. I’m not sure if our flooring guy was familiar with it, because early on he showed us that it didn’t make the best seams on the short side. Something I had not read about in the reviews. But we are so ready to move in and be done with this process that we told him to go ahead. Also, on Tuesday they extended the well 10” so it would pass inspection
Missed Final Inspection
On Wednesday I waited for 3 hours for the grading guy to come. Turns out he went to the wrong house and left them a note which I didn’t get until Thursday. I will definitely be putting up numbers on my home.
Partial Intestine Blockage
Having had lots of time to work and wait with Marshall at the house, I finally decided to find out why the dog was either not eating or throwing up every night. I took him to a vet. Something I have never done, and they found a squigz. It’s partially blocking his intestines. They want $2000 to operate on him.
I wanted to try not having that happen. But it appears he’s not likely to pass it on his own. We took him to another vet “Affordable Vet Clinic” They wanted the same price! We love our dog but $2000 is a lot at this time… we’re now looking in to Waggle. Hopefully their donors can help us with a bit of the cost. With this drama I got my inspections done a little later.
Almost successful Final Inspection
The final inspection was a joke. The guy came and didn’t look at anything, not the stairs, not the plumbing hookups. He just asked for the paperwork for everyone else’s final. He said that building is the final stop and so he is making sure all the work is done and approved by everyone else.
Problem is… I cannot get a final on the septic system unless I have power to the home. And I cannot get power to the home until the home has a completed final inspection… which this inspector told me he cannot give me unless my septic is final’d. So…. Something I needed to do months ago, I’m just finding out about now. I called my electrician and he will help me get power to the septic so it can be tested.
Gutters
I cleaned up around the house and finally met with the final inspector and grading inspector. The grading inspector told me I needed my gutters up, but that I only needed downspouts and splashblocks. This is definitely a blessing, because my neighbors and I all needed a drainage plan. Mine was as simple as they’d let me (because it really should be).
On Thursday the missionaries told me they have free time in the afternoon… I took care of that on Friday and we 3 got ¾ of the back gutter done. I also got the interior cleaned up and got better pictures
Isla’s Birthday
Isla’s birthday was August 31st and we didn’t work on the land but celebrated with cupcakes and the park. The 2 littles helped me “clean up”
We succeeding in getting Isla a gift that she, and Thea love. It’s a toy sink!
And Hannah made some cupcakes with decadent frosting on top. The picture is at the top of this. They were delicious!
We didn’t work on the house on her birthday. But I’m hopeful to have everything hooked up and passed off by Wednesday of next week. So that we can move in this coming weekend. Keeping our fingers crossed!
